We analyze qualitative aspects of the propagation of multiple discrete frequency waves in the normal dispersion regime in an optical fiber, analytically and numerically, using the nonlinear Schrödinger equation and associated scattering theory. Results illustrating phase-locked, periodic, and quasiperiodic propagation are presented in the context of multiphase dark solitary wave trains.
