Relation between dynamic localization in crystals and trapping in two-level atoms

It is shown that a recently reported realization of trapping in a two-level system with frequency-modulated fields in quantum optics is intimately related to an earlier demonstration of dynamic localization of charges moving in a crystal under the action of a time-periodic electric field. Size effects on the phenomenon are explored.
