Phys. Rev. A 61, 053608 (2000) [7 pages]Probing the statistical properties of Bose-Einstein condensates with light
Zbigniew Idziaszek1,2, Kazimierz Rza̧żewski1, and Maciej Lewenstein2 Received 29 November 1999; published 17 April 2000 A scattering of short, weak, nonresonant laser pulses on a Bose-Einstein condensate is proposed as a tool for studying its statistical properties. We show in particular that the variance of the number of scattered photons may distinguish between the Poisson and microcanonical statistics. ©2000 The American Physical Society
