T. N. Chang Received 19 October 1999; published 10 May 2000 We present a B-spline-based multichannel K-matrix method following an extension from a B-spline-based configuration-interaction approach. Theoretical procedures are presented in detail for its application to photoionization from two-electron and divalent (e.g., alkaline-earth) atoms. Numerical examples, including doubly excited photoionization spectra above the N=2 threshold from the He 1s2s 1S metastable state, are also given. ©2000 The American Physical Society
