Phys. Rev. A 67, 044701 (2003) [3 pages]Theory of Čerenkov pair production
Yugo Nagata and Hideo Nitta Received 3 December 2002; published 4 April 2003 A theory of spontaneous pair production is developed for the inverse process of the Čerenkov radiation. In the case of a free-electron gas, this “Čerenkov pair production” may occur if the relativistic plasma frequency of the gas ωrp satisfies ħωrp>2m0c2, which may hold in very dense matter, such as neutron stars. ©2003 The American Physical Society
