A formulation for the elastic scattering of electrons from molecules is presented based on an independent-particle model (IPM) and a fixed-nuclei approximation. Numerical computations are carried out for e-+N2 scattering. A phenomenological, energy-independent IPM potential is found to be capable of qualitatively reproducing the total and differential cross sections over a wide range of energy from 10 to 500 eV.
