Phys. Rev. B 68, 092104 (2003) [4 pages]Particle-size effect on the III-IV phase transition in CsZnPO4
Isao Yamashita1, Hitoshi Kawaji1, Tooru Atake1, Yoshihiro Kuroiwa2, and Akikatsu Sawada2 Received 7 November 2002; published 9 September 2003 Extremely large particle-size effect was found on the phase transition in III-IV phase transition in CsZnPO4 (CZP) and the thermodynamic studies were made by high-precision calorimetry and synchrotron-radiation x-ray powder diffractometry. The phase transition was not observed in the single crystals smaller than 0.1 mm, while the crystals larger than 0.25 mm showed the III-IV phase transition at 220 K. The diffractometry revealed that the powder sample had the structure of phase III from room temperature to liquid-nitrogen temperature. ©2003 The American Physical Society
