It is shown that the tensor analyzing powers for (d, α) reactions are senstive to the D-state component in the α-particle wave function. The D- to S-state asymptotic ratio extracted from T20 and T22 data in J=L±1 transitions is discussed using an α-particle D state generated with the Jackson and Riska model.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Polarization 32S, 36,  38Ar(d→, α), E=16 MeV; measured Axx,Ayy; deduced effect of α-particle D state.
