We report on the first measurement of tensor polarization transfer coefficients for the excitation of the 12.7 MeV 1+ state of 12C by (d→,d→) inelastic scattering at 393 MeV. The experiment has been performed at Saturne with a tensor polarimeter. The data have allowed the determination of the spin-flip probability S1, found to be in good agreement with the approximate signature Sdy determined previously with a vector polarimeter. The relationships between measured polarizations and analyzing powers are discussed.
