Validity of the smoothness assumption for calculating two-boson correlations in high-energy collisions

To predict two-boson correlation functions for emission from high-energy collisions using event simulators, the usual practice is to invoke the smoothness assumption. This assumption is questionable for cases with strong space-time correlations in the emission function. The validity of the assumption is explored here.
