The Euler-Lagrange equation for an impurity interacting with an inhomogeneous fluid is derived and applied to a description of the polarized hydrogen system, H, D, and T on the surface of liquid 4He. We find well-defined, strongly bound physisorbed states for T, and D and a weakly bound physisorbed state for H.
