Show Abstract
We present a new determination of the parity of the neutral pion via the double Dalitz decay π0→e+e-e+e-. Our sample, which consists of 30 511 candidate decays, was collected from KL→π0π0π0 decays in flight at the KTeV-E799 experiment at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. We confirm the negative π0 parity and place a limit on scalar contributions to the π0→e+e-e+e- decay amplitude of less than 3.3% assuming CPT conservation. The π0γ*γ* form factor is well described by a momentum-dependent model with a slope parameter fit to the final state phase-space distribution. Additionally, we have measured the branching ratio of this mode to be B(π0→e+e-e+e-)=(3.26±0.18)×10-5.

Show Abstract
The Fermilab KTeV experiment has searched for lepton-flavor-violating decays of the KL meson in three decay modes. We observe no events in the signal region for any of the modes studied, and we set the following upper limits for their branching ratios at the 90% C.L.: BR(KL→π0μ±e∓)<7.6×10-11; BR(KL→π0π0μ±e∓)<1.7×10-10; BR(π0→μ±e∓)<3.6×10-10. This result represents a factor of 82 improvement in the branching ratio limit for KL→π0μ±e∓ and is the first reported limit for KL→π0π0μ±e∓.

Show Abstract
The cross section for high-ET dijet production in photoproduction has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 81.8 pb-1. The events were required to have a virtuality of the incoming photon, Q2, of less than 1 GeV2 and a photon-proton center-of-mass energy in the range 142<Wγp<293 GeV. Events were selected if at least two jets satisfied the transverse-energy requirements of ETjet1>20 GeV and ETjet2>15 GeV and pseudorapidity (with respect to the proton beam direction) requirements of -1<ηjet1,2<3, with at least one of the jets satisfying -1<ηjet<2.5. The measurements show sensitivity to the parton distributions in the photon and proton and to effects beyond next-to-leading order in QCD. Hence these data can be used to constrain further the parton densities in the proton and photon.

We report on a new measurement of the branching ratio B(KL→π0e+e-γ) using the KTeV detector. This analysis uses the full KTeV data set collected from 1997 to 2000. We reconstruct 139 events over a background of 14, which results in B(KL→π0e+e-γ)=(1.62±0.14stat±0.09syst)×10-8. This result supersedes the earlier KTeV measurement of this branching ratio.

This Letter is the first report of the KL→π±e∓νe+e- decay. Based on 19 208±144 events, we determine the branching fraction, B(KL→π±e∓νe+e-;Me+e->5 MeV/c2,Ee+e-*>30 MeV)=(1.285±0.041)×10-5, and Γ(Ke3ee;Me+e->5 MeV/c2)/Γ(Ke3)=[4.57±0.04(stat)±0.14(syst)]×10-5. This ratio agrees with a theoretical prediction based on chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) calculated to O(p4). The measured kinematical distributions agree with those predicted by just ChPT O(p4), but show significant disagreement with ones predicted by leading-order ChPT.

The E799-II (KTeV) experiment at Fermilab has collected 83 262 KL→e+e-γ(γ) events above a background of 79 events. The polarization of Ξ0 and Ξ̅ 0 hyperons produced by 800 GeV/c protons on a BeO target at a fixed targeting angle of 4.8 mrad is measured by the KTeV experiment at Fermilab. Our result of 9.7% for Ξ0 polarization shows no significant energy dependence when compared to a result obtained at 400 GeV/c production energy and at twice our targeting angle. The polarization of the Ξ̅ 0 is measured for the first time and found to be consistent with zero. We also examine the dependence of polarization on production pt.

In this paper the KTeV collaboration reports the analysis of 112.1×103 candidate KL→π+π-γ decays including a background of 671±41 events with the objective of determining the photon production mechanisms intrinsic to the decay process. These decays have been analyzed to extract the relative contributions of the CP violating bremsstrahlung process and the CP conserving M1 and CP violating E1 direct photon emission processes. The M1 direct photon emission amplitude and its associated vector form factor parameterized as |g˜M1|(1+a1/a2 / (Mρ2-MK2)+2MKEγ) have been measured to be |g˜M1|=1.198±0.035(stat)±0.086(syst) and a1/a2=-0.738±0.007(stat)±0.018(syst) GeV2/c2 respectively. An upper limit for the CP violating E1 direct emission amplitude |gE1|≤0.21 (90%CL) has been found. The overall ratio of direct photon emission (DE) to total photon emission including the bremsstrahlung process (IB) has been determined to be DE/(DE+IB)=0.689±0.021 for Eγ≥20 MeV.

Using the complete KTeV data set of 5241 candidate KL→π+π-e+e- decays (including an estimated background of 204±14 events), we have measured the coupling gCR=0.163±0.014(stat)±0.023(syst) of the CP conserving charge radius process and from it determined a K0 charge radius of ⟨rK02⟩=[-0.077±0.007(stat)±0.011(syst)]fm2. We have determined a first experimental upper limit of 0.04 (90% C.L.) for the ratio |gE1| / |gM1| of the couplings for the E1 and M1 direct photon emission processes. We also report the measurement of |gM1| including a vector form factor |g˜M1|(1+a1/a2 / (Mρ2-MK2)+2MKEγ*), where |g˜M1|=1.11±0.12(stat)±0.08(syst) and a1/a2=[-0.744±0.027(stat)±0.032(syst)] GeV2/c2. Finally, a CP-violating asymmetry of [13.6±1.4(stat)±1.5(syst)]% in the CP and T odd angle ϕ between the decay planes of the e+e- and π+π- pairs in the KL center of mass is reported.

We present new measurements of KL semileptonic form factors using data collected in 1997 by the KTeV (E832) experiment at Fermilab. The measurements are based on 1.9×106 KL→π±e∓ν and 1.5×106 KL→π±μ∓ν decays. For f+(t), we measure both a linear and quadratic term: λ+′=(20.64±1.75)×10-3 and λ+′′=(3.20±0.69)×10-3. For f0(t), we find λ0=(13.72±1.31)×10-3. These form factors are consistent with K± form factors, suggesting that isospin symmetry breaking effects are small. We use our measured values of the form factors to evaluate the decay phase space integrals, IKe=0.15350±0.00105 and IKμ=0.10165±0.00080, where errors include uncertainties arising from the form factor parametrizations.

The photoproduction of bottom quarks in events with two jets and a muon has been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 110 pb-1. The fraction of jets containing b quarks was extracted from the transverse momentum distribution of the muon relative to the closest jet. Differential cross sections for bottom production as a function of the transverse momentum and pseudorapidity of the muon, of the associated jet and of xγjets, the fraction of the photon’s momentum participating in the hard process, are compared with MC models and QCD predictions made at next-to-leading order. The latter give a good description of the data.
