Relative energy spectrum of the 6He + n system, showing on the left a newly observed 7He excited-state resonance at Iπ = 1/2?. This state is interpreted to be a neutron in a p1/2 orbital coupled to the 6He ground state. The experimentally determined position of this resonance is in reasonable agreement with recent quantum Monte Carlo calculations of the 7He system. The energies shown are in MeV. [M.
