Illustration of the failure of the semiclassical eigenfunction hypothesis, a cornerstone of quantum-chaos theory, for a spatially periodic, kicked Hamiltonian. The quantum eigenstate (red) ignores the classical phase-space structures of regular islands in a chaotic sea when the dynamics is such that the island chain is traversed sequentially in time.
