Physical Review Letters – 9 December 2002
Volume 89, Issue 24

Plot of the optical potential in the region around two closely spaced Ag nanoparticles in water due to an EM wave. Electrodynamic calculations show that the force from even relatively weak incident intensities can be enhanced locally by surface plasmon resonances, becoming strong enough to deform the nanoparticles and to trap single molecules.
