Conduction pathways for Li ions in LiPO3 from a structural model of this alkali glass. Similar images for the mixed glass LixRb1-xPO3 at different Li concentrations show that the Rb and Li ions tend to block each other's pathways. This effect explains how the high conductivity of single alkali glasses is dramatically decreased by addition of a second alkali. [Jan Swenson and Stefan Adams, Phys. Rev. Lett. 90, 155507 (2003)]
