Phase-space plots of the electrons in an electron-positron plasma expanding under the action of a diamagnetic relativistic pulse; the colors show the distributions at successive times. Numerical simulations suggest that this mechanism can efficiently convert magnetic energy into the directed, ultrarelativistic motion of some of the plasma surface particles.
