Physical Review Letters – 24 October 2003
Volume 91, Issue 17

Color plots of the spectral intensity of radiation emitted in a simulated electron-ion collision for full (top) and for partial (bottom) ionization; time is along the horizontal axis. The bottom plot shows an attosecond radiation pulse due to "stimulated recombination", the result of a freed electron reencountering the ion and interfering with itself in the ground state. [A. Pukhov, S. Gordienko, and T. Baeva, Phys. Rev. Lett. 91, 173002 (2003)]
