Physical Review Letters – 2 July 2004
Volume 93, Issue 1

Numerical simulation of the phase-separation process for a mixture of an isotropic liquid (black areas) and a liquid crystal (colored areas, with the colors illustrating the direction of the nematic orientational field). Although the two phases occupy the same volume, the liquid-crystal phase forms into isolated droplets, breaking the morphological symmetry. [Takeaki Araki and Hajime Tanaka, Phys. Rev. Lett. 93, 015702 (2004)]
